Crest Nicholson needed a lighting solution to help lower their carbon emissions in 2017.
Crest Nicholson has been designing and building innovative housing solutions for 50 years. As a leading developer in the industry, their mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.
Today many businesses’ are becoming more aware of the effect that they have on the environment, but clearly, some industries have a greater impact due to the nature of their product or service. Housing development is perhaps one of the most sensitive sectors in which to balance the needs of society, with the impact that will inevitably occur during building developments.
Leading housing developers have an obligation to not only ensure that the homes they build are developed in the most sustainable fashion, but also that their own operations are undertaken in a manner that aligns with their corporate social responsibility.
As customers’ awareness of their own carbon footprint has increased, we have seen an upsurge in demand for sustainable products and environmentally beneficial solutions. Taking a sustainable business approach, therefore, makes both ethical and commercial sense.
Crest Nicholson encourage an open dialogue regarding their corporate social responsibility, with their stakeholders and the public. They annually report on their performance as a business with detailed data on their environmental and social economic values. By sharing this data with their stakeholders, they offer complete transparency and can update them on what they are doing and how they hope to achieve their targets. Sustainability is one of their three core principles and by sharing such information with the public they are creating a trustworthy relationship with their customers from the start.
To show their commitment to their environmental policies, Crest Nicholson set a target of a 10% reduction in office energy by 2017. With advancements in LED technology, it is now well understood that LED is a more environmentally friendly lighting solution than traditional fluorescent lamps.
Crest Nicholson made the decision to switch to LED in a large scale retrofit program. JCC Skytile® was chosen as the LED panel to install across Crest Nicholson’s 22,952sft Head office.
Since its launch in 2011, Skytile® has set the ‘gold standard’ in LED panel design and has become the clear market leader in its category. Skytile® is easy to install and comes with a 5-year extended warranty including 2 year on-site. Alongside this, Skytile® provides the reliability and assurance that large companies can rely on to drive down energy consumption and improve their working environment.
Following the installation, Crest Nicholson have seen a 70% decrease in daily lighting energy consumption, and in the first four months, they were able to see a 26% drop in the overall energy levels.
